Evil Eye Hanging, Eye
Evil Eye Hanging, Eye
The Blue Eyes that are commonly called Evil Eyes, are called Nazars in the Eastern Mediterranean where their use is more common. These protective devices are used to counteract the 'Evil Eye' - A powerful curse in the form of a glare of envy that is believed to be able to inflict harm or misfortune. These eye shaped devices are symbolic of the blue sky where god resides and protects his children. It is believed the resemblance to the human eye causes the Glare to become distracted.
In Turkey, as well as Armenia, Iran, Albania, and Afghanistan people hang the Nazars to to keep bad spirits away as well as protection from evil and misfortune.
We at Metaphysics ' A Spirited Space' love the style and protective qualities of this awesome tradition.
