White Winged Foo Dog
White Winged Foo Dog
We had a pair of these lovely Foo Dogs fly into the shop. They are a great form of eastern home protection. We are offering them for adoption individually, but you can adopt both of them at once if you would like. At only $24.99 each, we expect them to fly off the shelf quickly, so adopt soon.
They are a brilliant white ceramic, however they most likely can be painted!
Foo Dogs are also known as Lion Dogs, Imperial Guardian Lions, and Fu Dogs. These statuary are a traditional Chinese architectural ornament. Typically made of stone, they are also known as stone lions or shishi.
The concept, which originated and became popular in Chinese Buddhism, features a pair of highly stylized lions—often one male with a ball and one female with a cub—which were thought to protect the building from harmful spiritual influences and harmful personal that might be a threat.
Used in imperial Chinese palaces and tombs, the lions subsequently spread to other parts of Asia including Japan, Korea, Tibet, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore.
